Frequently Asked Questions

What is the VAT rate in UAE?+
The UAE applies a standard VAT rate of 5% on most goods and services. VAT was introduced in the UAE on January 1, 2018. Some categories are zero-rated (0%) including most food items, healthcare, and education. Certain items are VAT-exempt. The Federal Tax Authority (FTA) oversees VAT compliance.
When must a UAE business register for VAT?+
Businesses with taxable supplies exceeding AED 375,000 per annum must mandatorily register for VAT. Businesses with supplies between AED 187,500 and AED 375,000 may voluntarily register. Businesses below AED 187,500 are not required to register and cannot charge VAT.
How do I calculate VAT in UAE?+
To add VAT: multiply the pre-tax amount by 1.05 (e.g., AED 1,000 × 1.05 = AED 1,050). To extract VAT from a VAT-inclusive price: divide by 1.05 and subtract the result (e.g., AED 1,050 ÷ 1.05 = AED 1,000 net; VAT = AED 50). Our calculator does both calculations automatically.
